a little girl all alone on the street, crying
the passersby slow down with concern
then one stops, a woman
she approaches the little frightened girl
she asks where her parents are
the girl just cries
the woman puts her hand on the little girls cheeks
the girl's sobs subside as she puts her little hand on the woman's
then from out of an immense crowd
another little girl comes rushing
running up to the little girl
the little girl sees her and they embrace
and then her father appears
a face emerging from a faceless blur
and the three embrace as the woman steps back
she watches the father take his two girls
back into the crowd, reunited
kissing and hugging his daughter
the woman gives a smile
sees that everything was alright after all
and continues on her way
she goes one way
the family goes the other
i watch them for minutes
walking slowly, separately away
they will never see each other again
but for a brief moment
that woman and that girl
were the only two people in the world for each other.
